---|
Overview
The site was located in the southeast of Lake Hamana. Excavations started in 2007 as Yayoi pottery was found nearby Maisaka Elementary School. Artifacts dated from the Yayoi period (300 BC - 300AD) to the Kamakura period (1185 – 1333) were yielded. A Yayoi pottery was found in perfect condition.
The site is thought to be most flourished during the Asuka period (592 - 710) to the Nara period (710 - 792). The total of 27 pit-houses and 2 post-supported structures (storages) dated to the period were revealed. Evidences that fishing activities were carried out around this area such as dishes, fish net sinkers, and salt making pots were also found in the ruins of houses. The shape of sinkers shows similarity to those found in the Setouchi region.
