Establishment
In 1960, Meizen Memorial (Meizen Kinenkan) was established to honor the achievements and the goodwill of Kinpara Meizen who devoted his life for flood-controls and watershed managements.
Contents
The museum presents thousands of items related to Kinpara such as clothes, bags, tea cups, writings, sho (calligraphy), and pictures. He was also known for having great hand writing. Letters presented here include those from important people in Japanese history such as Itō Hirobumi and Ōkubo Toshimichi.
As well as flood control projects, he handled reclamation projects, lumber business, bank business, and projects to help former prisoners. It also shows documents and materials regarding his achievements in those aspects.
Remarks
His birth house stands in front of the building and it is planned to be remodeled in summer of 2010 due to its decrepitude.
Meizenkai (literally, the association of Meizen) holds a festival called Meizensai on his birthdays, January 14th, at Myōonji Temple, where he is enshrined.
