Establishment
Hamamatsu Science Museum (Hamamatsu Kagakukan) was established in May 1986. It was designed to encourage youth to grow their interests in science, and to develop flexible and creative minds. The collection is donated or supported to produced by universities and companies in Hamamatsu. It aims to be a social education institution that represents the aspect of Hamamatsu as the city of monozukuri (spirit of creation).
Contents
The museum displays 140 objects classified by themes of nature, universe, sound, light, electronics, and power.
- Nature Corner: The characteristic part of nature in Enshū area is presented.
- Universe Corner: Games, quizzes, and videos regarding universe are available.
- Sound Corner: Introduction to the nature of sound and activities are provided.
- Light Corner: Activities to experience various kinds of light and their phenomenon are available.
- Electronics Corner: The nature of the electronics is introduced through numerous displays such as generating devices.
- Power Corner: Activities to learn and experience the fundamental to the cutting-edge of force and related technology.
Furthermore, the museum employs a system called Hamamatsu Museum Multimedia Education Systems Ⅳ (HAMESⅣ) which allows visitors to enjoy learning science through activities such as taking quizzes regarding displays and communicating with Blue Yume, a robot moving around in the museum. Its Planetarium was renewed in March 24th 2006. It applies the projector system combined system of star-ball and digital which a really realistic sky in the screen above your head. It is 20 in diameter and capacity of 200 people.
Remarks
Science Show is a popular event which presents experiments as shows. Hands on activities such as Mini Experiments and Micro Observe Counter are held occasionally to make visitor feel science closer.
