Overview
According to record, Nobunaga related to Ieyasu that it would be inconvenient for him to send reinforcement from Mikawa to Mitsuki Iwata , where Ieyasu had first started building the castle. Because of this, Ieyasu decided to move his plan to Hikuma. “Todaiki”
In June 1570, He moved to Hikuma (present Hamamatsu) and built the new castle in the hilly area which was included the southwest part of the Hikuma Castle. The construction proceeded while Ieyasu and his troops went to battle in Echizen (Fukui), Omi (Shiga).
Location
The Hamamatsu Castle is located in the middle of the city. It is about 5.5km distance to the Tenryu River and to the Enshunada sea, and approximate 12km to the east coast of Lake Hamana.
The right north to the castle is Sakudani, Sikadani, Ikegawadani, and further north is the Mikatahara Plateau. In the south, there is Mt. Tokosamu where the Gosha shrine and Suwa shrine stand. From the east side, you can look down upon the downtown Hamamatsu.
