Overview
As Enshū region was one of the leading producers of cotton in Edo period of Japan, people were making textiles products in their houses. Mii played a great role on the development of textile industry in the region. She is called the mother of Enshū textiles.
Biography
In 1821, she was born in Hongo-son, Nagakami-gun (Hongo-cho, Minami-ku). Mii could weave fast since she was a child. People said that she wove like she swims. She built a factory at Kido-cho and hired employees to increase the productivity. Textiles business quickly spread in Enshū region as the women worked at factory made products in their home too. Mii and her associates established the association of textile industry of Enshū region, Eiryūsha, to maintain the products’ quality. The association contributed to the development of the industry by supporting the improvement of the products’ qualities and sales.
