Overview
The Shijimizuka site contains ruins of settlements with shell mounds.
Among the shells found in the mounds, more than 90% was of yamato shijimi (Corbicula japonica), and the rest includes those of Japanese oysters and kisago (umbonium costatum). Furthermore bones of animals, birds, and fishes were also excavated. For example: dears, boars, cranes, pheasants, carps, seaperchs, bonitos, whales, sea turtle, and etc.
